Yosemite Day 1
2008-08-29 (Friday) by Gregory Tucker.
We had a blast on day 1. Instead of driving we took the YARTS bus into the park, which required about 2 hours 45 minutes, compared to 2 hours by car. The price for the two of us was $50 (children are free), which was reasonable overall. The bus was much less stressful than driving, though Michiko still got car sick from it.
We arrived at the valley Visitor Center, and walked to the lower falls. The falls were more of a trickle by late summer, but we managed to hike up the rocks to the natural pool at the base of the falls. Reon took off at the start of the climb, while Aya worked more slowly, deciding what to do. We imagined that Michiko and Aya turned around near the beginning.
When Reon and I arrived some teenagers were swimming in the pool, so we proceeded to climb further up the mountain. About half way up the climb above the pool, Aya finally caught up with us, and we all made it to the top of the ledge together. By the time we made it back to the pool, the shade covered it and the teenagers left, so Aya and Reon enjoyed an hour of swimming by themselves.
Climbing down the rocks was almost harder than the original climb up. Aya was more scared on the descent, but she made it. At the bottom we met another couple whose teenage son decided to climb up the same mountain. She told us many people were impressed that Aya managed to make the climb. Yes, Aya was amazing on day 1.
